Preliminary Design of a Cooling Loop for a Suborbital Payload Seminar

The Florida Space Institute (FSI) is sponsoring a seminar on Friday, September 13th, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at FSI Partnership 1 building, Room 209.

TOPIC: “Preliminary Design of a Cooling Loop for a Suborbital Payload”

SPEAKER: Clarissa Casagrande

BIO:

Clarissa Casagrande is a MSc student in Mechanical Engineering Energy and Aeronautics at the University of Genova, Italy. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Genova in 2017. While Clarissa was pursuing the bachelor’s degree, she participated in the Erasmus Exchange Program at the University of Malaga in Spain. Clarissa just completed a 5-week internship at the FSI, and will be starting her master’s thesis at the end of September at Avio, General Electric in Turin, Italy.

ABSTRACT:

This work is part of a summer internship at the Florida Space Institute in collaboration with the University of Genova. The project is about a preliminary design of a cooling loop for Dust In-Situ Manipulation System (DIMS) Payload. DIMS will be a suborbital payload that will fly with Blue Origin in 2020. The purpose of the liquid cooling loop is to control the temperature of Peltier elements used in Dust In-Situ Manipulation System. The presentation will discuss the various cooling configurations tested, the thermodynamic approach, and the steps moving forward for a successful suborbital payload implementation.
