Develop a collaborative HLA simulation in collaboration with teams from universities around the world.
The idea for the Simulation Exploration Experience Project (SEE) – an elaborate international simulation project – was born at the NASA Kennedy Space Center in Florida and implemented by NASA and the Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization (SISO).
The goal of the annual project is to motivate students to engage in advanced simulation techniques. In addition, international cooperation and communication between universities should be promoted.
For SEE 2019 teams from Brazil, France, Bulgaria, Germany and the USA took part. For one semester, each of these teams developed part of a planned moon mission. The team of the University of Applied Sciences Munich, supervised by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Karl-Heinz Siebold, together with the team of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, simulated a space station in lunar orbit.
After the teams communicated through weekly online conferencing during the semester, a final meeting was held in Florida on the Space Coast in early May 2019. During the two days at the Florida Institute of Technology (FIT), the separately developed simulations were merged, communicated through a common interface, and visualized in a graphical interface using NASA’s Distributed Observer Network Software (DON).
During the event, all teams had the opportunity to present their work in detail and to interact with the other teams. In addition, attendees were given the opportunity to attend a guided tour of the Kennedy Space Center.
