Speaker: Myriam Newman
Title: High Potential: Navigating the world with a physics degree
Abstract: Physicists have a highly desirable skill set that enable them to succeed in multiple fields. The ability to understand complex relationships and analyze data allow for a variety of rewarding career paths. Myriam Newman will discuss her experiences working in both academia and industry, highlighting considerations for preparing for a career in either field.
Speaker Bio: Ms. Newman currently works as a systems engineer for Northrop Grumman, where she has worked on projects as diverse as hypersonic vehicle research and an open mission systems software architecture. Ms. Newman has also worked as a systems engineer for Raytheon Electronic Systems and Lockheed Martin Aerospace. She received her academic training at Cornell University and the University of Oxford. Her research in particle accelerator physics has taken her to labs around the world including Argonne National Lab in Lemont, IL, KEK in Tsukuba, Japan and CERN in Geneva, Switzerland.
