SEE OUR IMPACT ON THE FUTURE OF SPACE
UCF’s Exolith Lab was featured on FOX 13 News for developing realistic lunar soil simulant used to test rover mobility, traction and construction methods needed for future Moon bases. The coverage highlights how this research allows scientists and engineers to prepare equipment for the Moon’s harsh environment on Earth, positioning UCF and Central Florida at the forefront of the technologies required to build and sustain a long-term human presence on the lunar surface.

SPACE WEEK | 2025 UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL FLORIDA
The Florida Space Institute was proud to convene the 2nd SpaceU Symposium at UCF on Friday, Nov. 7, 2025. The event brought together space leaders, researchers, and students from across Florida, presented the latest innovations and research, built in-state collaborations and partnerships, and highlighted our specialized facilities. The Space Showcase featured research posters, student clubs, degree programs, internship and scholarship opportunities, jobs, and more. In partnership with NASA, Florida research universities drove the future of space science, exploration, and industry to foster a prosperous space economy.
2025 LUNABOTICS COMPETITION
The Florida Space Institute was proud to host the 2025 NASA Lunabotics Qualification Challenge from May 15–18 at the Exolith Lab®. The NASA Lunabotics Challenge was a cutting-edge event that brought together talented university teams from across the country to develop and deploy robots capable of utilizing lunar regolith in a simulated lunar environment.
2024 NOT SO SOLAR ECLIPSE EVENT
The Florida Space Institute, alongside The University of Central Florida hosted The Not So Solar Eclipse Event, in which students and local community members gathered at UCF’s Reflection Pond to witness the most recent solar eclipse wash over the Orlando Area. This was one of the Florida Space Institute’s biggest event turn outs, garnering over 3000 in person attendees!
SPRING AND FALL SEMINAR SERIES
Every year, we gather scientists, researchers, and speakers stretching from Florida Space Institute, to Universities and Institutions around the country to give educational talks about a vast area of topics.
