SPACEU SYMPOSIUM:

ANDREW DEAN
ABSTRACT:
We are building a chamber to emulate the main descent phase of probes through Europa’s ice, with temperatures ranging from 193–233 K. Ice blocks of 80 cm in diameter are stacked and fused in the chamber, where sensors track probe depth and ice temperature. Vacuum is used for thermal insulation and stainless steel walls ensure mechanical integrity.
