CAMERON’S BIOGRAPHY
Cameron Collyer is a graduate student in the Planetary Sciences Group within the Department of Physics at the University of Central Florida (UCF). He started at UCF in Fall 2023 on the Ph.D. track working with his advisors Dr. Estela Fernández-Valenzuela at the Florida Space Institute and Dr. Bryan Holler at the Space Telescope Science Institute. Cameron Received his BA in Astronomy and Physics from Boston University in 2023 while also working on research at the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian.
Cameron’s research interests revolve around the physical characterization of Trans-neptunian objects (TNOs). Projects he has been working on involve (a) understanding the distribution of surface types amongst TNOs in various dynamical classes, in particular the TNOs that are in the 3:2 resonance with Neptune referred to as plutinos’ since the dwarf planet Pluto is also in this dynamical state (b) studying long term photometry of TNOs to constrain their shapes, spin-axis orientations and to search for satellites and (c) surface compositional studies by spectral analysis.
