WELCOME BEHIND THE SCENES AND INTO OUR LAB
At Florida Space Institute, the Experimental Planetary Sciences section of our labs is dedicated to simulating and studying planetary processes in controlled environments to advance our understanding of the solar system. This research integrates laboratory experiments, numerical modeling, and comparisons with observational data to investigate the physical and chemical properties of planetary materials and phenomena. By recreating conditions such as extreme temperatures, pressures, and radiation levels found on other planets and moons, this section explores topics ranging from surface processes and atmospheric dynamics to planetary interiors and the behavior of ices and rocks. These experimental insights provide a foundation for interpreting spacecraft data, refining theoretical models, and guiding future planetary exploration missions.
OUR MAIN POINTS OF RESEARCH
The Experimental Planetary Sciences section of our lab is divided into two specialized facilities: the Lunar Lab and the Small Bodies Lab. The Lunar Lab focuses on simulating and analyzing processes relevant to the Moon, while the Small Bodies Lab investigates the physical and chemical properties of asteroids, comets, and other small solar system objects.
