FSI Assistant Director Josh Colwell and Research Associate Adrienne Dove’s “Nanorocks” Payload Scheduled for Deployment to the International Space Station in 2014

FSI Assistant Director Josh Colwell and Research Associate Adrienne Dove attended the 2nd ISS Research and Development Conference in Denver in July and presented their “Nanorocks” payload that is scheduled for deployment to the International Space Station in the first half of 2014. The image below shows the small payload that will study the collisional dissipation of energy in systems such as planetary rings and the protoplanetary disk. The microgravity environment of the ISS will enable the team to study collision velocities that are only a fraction of a centimeter per second.
